The less they know the better. That is the mantra at St Kilda’s pre-season camp, with the high performance department and coaching staff keeping the players guessing in New Zealand.

Exciting young gun Jade Gresham, who inherited the Saints’ famous No. 4 guernsey last week, explained that the playing group has been left in the dark with the program, including their sleeping arrangements.

“We don’t know what we’re going to do each day, they are sort of keeping it under wraps,” Gresham told saints.com.au in New Zealand.

“We got told to bring sleeping bags and mats to sleep on; we think we’re going to go camping but we’re still not sure yet.

“All the boys are keeping on their toes, we really don’t know what to expect.”

After an eye-catching debut season where he played in all but four games, Gresham is aiming to improve his endurance base in his second pre-season at St Kilda.

As well as providing an opportunity to enhance fitness, Gresham believes the New Zealand camp will help build better relationships among a playing group that added nine new faces during the trade and draft period.

“This camp is mainly about building our fitness up, our skills and also getting to bond with all the boys and getting to know each other a bit better – I guess that’s one of the main things,” he said.
